The Paediatric Emergency Department uses the Triage System in which patients are assessed according to urgency of their case. This system ensures that those in a serious condition receive priority care, however we do endeavor to ensure that all patients are seen as quickly as possible. Waiting period from 0 second till maximum 30 minutes, The average length of stay in the unit is approximately one hour, although this will vary depending on the severity of your case and the number/severity of other cases which are being dealt with at the same time.

The paediatric department provides specialized care in the following areas

Childbirth and newborns

All high-risk deliveries at Zulekha Hospital Sharjah are attended by a paediatrician or neonatologist. We have state-of-the-art delivery rooms and a full-term nursery to take care of your newborn. Our neonatal trained nurses and midwives help new mothers take care of their newborn baby, including help with breastfeeding, cleaning and other day-to-day care.

Before discharge, your baby will receive vaccinations against Hepatitis B and BCG and blood samples will be sent for newborn screening tests for common metabolic disorders in infancy.

After discharge from the hospital, your child will be followed regularly in the paediatric outpatient clinic to make sure they receive their vaccinations on time and to ensure they are growing and developing well.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit / SBU

Zulekha Hospital has upgraded and expanded its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) from 16 to 19 beds, making it one of the largest level three NICU facilities in the UAE. It comprises 19 Neonatal Intensive Care beds, two isolation rooms and our specially designed breastfeeding cubicles with express in comfort.

Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Zulekha Hospital state-of-the-art paediatric intensive care unit houses 3 beds including Isolation room and provides specialized care around the clock to critically ill children. It serves paediatric patients suffering from life threatening conditions such as respiratory distress, seizures, coma, serious infections, asthma, pneumonia and accidental poisoning, as well as those who have undergone complex paediatric surgical procedures.

The unit employs the latest technology such as pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2 monitors with invasive hemodynamic monitoring, ventilators, non-invasive ventilation. The PICU is staffed by an internationally trained team of paediatric intensivist hospitalists, paediatric subspecialists such as a paediatric cardiologist, paediatric infectious disease specialist and paediatric intensive care nurses.

Paediatric Surgery

Paediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving surgery of foetuses, infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
Our paediatric surgeons commonly operate on conditions such as congenital malformations, abdominal wall defects, chest wall deformities and childhood tumors.

Paediatric Physiotherapy
