The General Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery Department at Zulikha Hospital is well equipped to meet all emergency, elective and general emergency conditions.

The main objective of the department is to provide a comprehensive range of surgical procedures using minimal surgical techniques with fewer postoperative complications and faster patient recovery. The unique section provides the highest quality of treatment and patient care using state-of-the-art technology, operating rooms and intensive care unit. Our goal is to provide the best treatment procedures to speed up the healing process.

Minimal surgery

Minimal surgery ends with one or more small incisions instead of a large incision. The surgeon passes a telescope with a video camera through a small incision (typically only إنش inches) in the body. He monitors the process through the live image on the TV in front of him. The surgical instruments are then passed through other similar small incisions. The surgeon then works on the area concerned by displaying the magnifying images projected on the video screen. When using the telescope to operate on the abdomen, this procedure is called laparoscopy. When it is used in the chest this procedure is called and when used in the joints, it is called endoscopy.

What types of surgery can be performed by the endoscopy?

Most abdominal surgeries can be performed by the endoscopy. In some cases, other factors may make laparoscopic surgery possible. The surgeon will discuss the matter with the patient to make the final decision about the possible possibilities of laparoscopic surgery. Many diseases require abdominal surgery and a high proportion of these conditions can be done through the endoscopy.

What is the benefit of laparoscopic surgery?

The most important reason for most patients is the speed of recovery. In many cases of abdominal surgery, the time of symmetry of healing can be reduced to more than half. For some types of surgery, complications may occur, such as infection at the incision, which is avoided by laparoscopic surgery.

There are many advantages for patients to perform laparoscopic surgery instead of open surgery.

  • Bleeding Less: which reduces the chance of need for transfusion.
  • Smaller opening: reducing pain and shortening recovery time.
  • Less pain, fewer medications.
  • Injuries are low due to reduced internal organs exposure to potential external contaminants.
  • Scar is relatively small since laparoscopic surgery does not need more than a small opening just on the body and leaves it a relatively small scarring effect.
  • The movement returns quickly.
  • Faster resumption of normal diet.
  • Shorter stay in the hospital.
  • Faster return to normal activities.
  • Fewer chances of lung damage.
  • Fewer chances of immune system consumption.

Although the length of hospital stay is slightly longer, the return time for routine life is faster. Laparoscopic surgery requires mini equipment, surgeons with sufficient expertise and skill, and a medical team. But its positive benefits for patients make it a preferred option.
